TEAM ACCOMPLISHMENTS
As the second team to compete from BYU, the 2013 team focused on improving four aspects of the 2012 design: engine efficiency, rolling resistance, total weight, and driver safety. The resulting vehicle runs on a high-compression ratio engine driven by the Miller cycle, weighs 99 lbs. (23 lbs. less than last year), has a 20% lower coefficient of rolling friction, and has vastly improved visibility. All of these improvements contribute to the vehicle’s 1300 miles per gallon fuel economy, with a projected 1800 mpg fuel-economy under ideal conditions.
